Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I begin?

Step 1. Start by visiting the following page: Fellowships Office Website managed by the Office of Career Services (OCS).  OCS managed the majority of fellowships available to students on campus.  They provide excellent information regarding the background and logistics surrounding each of these funding opportunities.  We highly recommend that you attend the pertinent information sessions (OCS Calendar) that they host regarding specific fellowships, interviews, personal statement essay writing advice, etc.

Step 2.  Search for funding opportunities through this comprehensive database via the OCS website: http://www.funding.fas.harvard.edu/

Step 3.  Contact us regarding any specific questions you have about a particular fellowship(s)!

What do House Fellowship Advisers (HFAs) do?

Our mission is to help Dunster students engage with the fellowships process and help them navigate the logistics involved when applying for funding. Whether you are considering a fellowship for graduate study abroad, summer research experiences, or funding for an enrichment experience of your choice, we are available to support you. We are happy to review drafts of your applications and essays, discuss interview tips, and help you find appropriate fellowships that may be well-suited for your background and interests.

Do I need to be a senior to consider applying for a fellowship?

Absolutely not!  This is a common misconception about fellowships as most people engage with the process starting their summer before their senior year.   This is not, however, a rule and we hope to change this trend over time.  We encourage more sophomores and juniors to contact us since there are many fellowships available to non-senior students.  We are keen to learn of your interest!
