Dunster House is proud of our many talented artists and musicians. This page includes the latest information on Arts and Music events at Dunster House. Check back often for updates and information on how you can attend or participate in our many events.
Music
Dunster abounds with music; the House has a long tradition of music-making, and music continues to be an integral part of House life. Many members of the Dunster community are involved in some way with playing, singing, composing, producing, and enjoying live music. Musical events include:
- Library Concerts: The Library is perfect acoustically and visually for vocal and chamber music, solo recitals, small orchestral performances, and poetry readings. Performers from the House are featured in a special concert at the end of each semester, but we would love to have performances throughout the year. To find an ensemble to perform with, or to put together a library concert, please get in touch with Kathy Gerlach (gerlach@fas)!
- Messiah Sing: Annual December performance taking place in the dining hall featuring student soloists, the Mozart Society Orchestra, and the audience as chorus. The 2009 Messiah Sing will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2009.
- Open Mic Night: An open-mic performance opportunity for Dunster students, singer-songwriters from around campus, and other guests. Email Aaron Byrd (Aaron_Byrd@post.harvard.edu) if you'd like to perform.
- Music Outings: House-sponsored trips to musical performances in the Boston area. Stay tuned for announcements over the house list or email Kathy Gerlach (gerlach@fas) with suggestions.
- Dunster Concert Series: Special performances for the Dunster community. Past presenters have included the Cambridge Chamber Players, violist Edward Gazouleas from the Boston Symphony, and the Low Strung Cellos.
Dunster House Opera Society
The Dunster House Opera Society (DHO) was founded by Dunster students in 1992 and is open to all undergraduates. It is an entirely undergraduate organization whose goal is to provide the Harvard community with exposure to opera as both a valuable art form and as an accessible, enjoyable form of entertainment. Past productions have included Candide, The Magic Flute, and The Marriage of Figaro. For more information visit the DHO website: http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/~dho.
Drama
Through Dunster HoCo, producers can seek funding and rehearsal space for shows in the House. Priority is given to Dunster students and applications from Dunster students will be accepted at all times during the year.
