Pottery Studio

The Dunster House Pottery Studio is a fully equipped and functioning art space. We have several types of clay that can be used to hand build, sculpt, or throw on a wheel. The studio is equipped with two kick wheels used for throwing and trimming (finishing). There are books in the studio to use as reference or for ideas, and there is always an experienced potter around for questions or lessons.

After a piece is produced it is set untouched to dry. Once completely bone dry the piece can be put in the kiln for its first firing (bisqued). After the bisque firing the piece can be painted with glaze. Many colors are available in the studio. After glaze has been painted on the piece goes back in the kiln for its final firing. A finished piece is the end result.
Home-made pottery adds a fun accent to any dorm room, and also makes a great gift. You can make clay into anything imaginable, but some common and useful items include- pencil holder, vase, bookend, mug, penny dish, bowl, or sculptural art.
