Darkroom
J-Entry Basement

The darkroom has a specially built, double-door system that assures easy entry and exit without light leaks. A dual fan system has been installed, as well as two work stations, and 2 separate sinks. In addition, there is a second room with sliding door for film processing while the main room is being used for printing. Lockers have been installed to allow for safe, convenient storage of paper, negatives, and other supplies. The darkroom is equipped with 2 Omega C760XL Enlargers, one with a Dichro head for color printing capability. Both can print negatives as large as 6x6cm. Each enlarger is attached to a Besseler Digi-Timer for accurate, easy enlarging. Also, the darkroom has 2 Schneider Componon-S 50mm/2.8 lenses, one for each enlarger, as well as a Schneider 80mm/4 for medium format negatives. There is a complete array of graduates and trays for black and white printing at sizes up to 16x20 in., and an Arkay 2100 RC print dryer capable of accepting B&W RC and color paper up to 20 inches wide. There are fiberglass drying screens available for fiber based papers. For film processing, there are both metal and plastic reels and tanks for developing 35mm, 120mm, 220mm, and 4x5in. sheet film. The darkroom has a Jobo Mistral 2 Convection Film Dryer for clean, fast film drying. The Dunster House darkroom provides chemicals, but does not provide paper. For a membership fee, all students and SCR members may use the darkroom facilities. Contact Sam Moulton (moulton at wjh dot harvard dot edu) if you're interested in using the darkroom.

Photo Studio
The Dunster House photo studio is a facility providing space for Dunster photographers to do studio photography such as sets, portraiture, and fashion photography. Equipment includes a portable lighting setup, with 2 500W lights, an umbrella, and several 250W fixtures. This is available for use in the photo studio only. There is also a portable background stand and background papers. There is currently no fee, however users may be required to purchase their own light bulbs due to the rapid rate at which these bulbs burn out. This is fairly inexpensive. Contact Sam Moulton (moulton@wjh.harvard.edu) if you're interested in using the photo studio.
