Mooseletter – April 3, 2017

From the Office of the Interim Dean
Jennifer Hsiao

Issues of the Week
In Absentia Exams are not automatically granted, so you must petition the Administrative Board if you need to take an exam in absentia. Petitions needed to have been filed by 4/1. Please see me if you have any questions.
Extensions: An extension beyond the end of Exam Period for the completion of written work can be granted ONLY by a vote of the Ad Board. There is no such thing as an “incomplete” for written work for Harvard undergraduates.
Interested in Taking Some Time Off? Please speak with me about this, as we must file this information with the Registrar’s Office.

Submission of Similar Papers to More than One Course: If you would like to turn in the same or substantially the same paper to more than one course, you must get prior written permission from the instructors involved. Since each paper you turn in is expected to be written specifically for the assignment, failure to get written permission is deceptive, and students who do it are ordinarily required to withdraw from the College by the Administrative Board. Instructors do not always give permission, and they often expect a longer or somewhat different paper when they do give permission to do this. If you have any questions, please see me.
Plagiarism: Academic dishonesty in written work is a serious offense. Be sure you understand and follow all the proper rules of attribution and citation in writing term papers. When in doubt, please ask your professors or teaching fellows about proper use of sources, but do not place your career at Harvard in jeopardy by cutting corners.

About hovsep

Welcome back to Dunster! I have been the administrative assistant to the Dean since 2009: managing student records, answering your academic questions, and coordinating Commencement and other House events. I also am here to aid you in coordinating your medical school application process and getting your recommendations in order, so please visit me if you have any questions. Every Monday, I publish the Mooseletter in the dining hall and in your inboxes with news from our offices, which includes academic deadlines, upcoming House events, and information you will find useful. If you find that you have any questions about academics, need to get in contact with the Dean or just want to chat, please stop by! When I am not in Dunster, I am spending time with my family and two Boston Terriers in Bedford, MA. I also love reading, traveling, watching movies, and I am always on the lookout for recommendations if you have any! Let's have another great year in Dunster!
