Mooseletter-12/6/2021

From the Office of the Resident Dean, Michael Uy:

Deerest Meese, Happy December! I hope you had a good start to reading period and good effort and good luck with final exams as they begin this Thursday. I have so much faith in you and your ability to succeed! You got this!I also get that things beyond your control may happen between now and December 18th, so please see below for instructions on what to do if you need a medical make-up exam or request for extensions due to medical or special circumstances. You always have options – sometimes they’re great, sometimes they’re not so great – but we can talk through and try to figure them out together. Please continue to be mindful of Harvard's Honor Code as you complete final projects and study for final exams. And again, double and triple check the formats, times, and locations of your exams – review Mike Burke’s helpful email, sent on December 2nd. Wash your hands, be safe, eat well, drink water, exercise, sleep, and communicate. Sending all the Dunster Love ❤

I want to thank Anita Haq for being such a wonderful, wonderful interim Academic Coordinator. Her last day is this Friday, December 10th. If you see her, please say thank you! I am also delighted to welcome back Diana Hovsepian, who returns to us today, December 6th! This week we will be blessed with both of their work and care.

Understand 2021-22 extensions of time policy (different from last year):
If you encounter unexpected difficulties in completing your work, you should consult your Resident Dean. Extensions of time up to the end of the Examination Period may be granted by your instructor, but extensions beyond the Examination Period can be granted only by vote of the Administrative Board.

If you are sick during the 24 hours before your exam, call HUHS Urgent Care.
Explain that you are unwell and scheduled to take an exam within the next 24 hours. If you are instructed to go to HUHS Urgent Care, make sure to request a medical make-up form. Let your Resident Dean know you will miss your exam and give them the make-up form so they can help you with the make-up exam process.

If you miss your exam, contact your Resident Dean immediately.

If you are sick during your exam, immediately let your instructor know.

You are required to call HUHS Urgent Care (617-495-5711) to let them know you are leaving your exam due to illness.

  • If you are too sick to go to HUHS on your own, your instructor will contact someone from HUPD to accompany you.
  • Once you arrive at Urgent Care, you are not permitted to communicate with anyone until you are able to resume your exam, and you will be directed to contact your Resident Dean about your illness.
  • When you resume your exam, you will only be allowed the balance of time remaining to finish it.

As is the case each semester, the Dunster common rooms will remain open 24/7 during the reading and exam periods, except when in use for pre-approved House-sponsored events.
