Mooseletter 3/22/21

From the Office of the Resident Dean, Michael Uy

Deer Meese, I hope that you are all doing as well as can be, staying safe and healthy. I know many of you are still reeling from the terrorist attack in Georgia last Tuesday, which targeted not just the Asian and Pacific Islander community, but specifically Asian women. We know this was an act of terrorism and racial hate despite the absurd defenses and denials that have been concocted. I’ve shared with some of you that I’ve personally gone through periods of compartmentalization and decompartmentalization – otherwise I’m afraid the sadness and fear would just break me. I know I’m not alone, whether you feel these emotions personally, or by proxy, through your own encounters with racism, misogyny, and discrimination. Nothing gives me greater hope, though, than to see the ways Dunsterites have led efforts in solidarity, change, and aid, including at last Thursday’s vigil. I’d also like to highlight two Crimson articles, HERE and HERE, one of which was written by a Dunsterite. Finally, there is the event hosted jointly by the Race Relations and CARE tutors tonight, which I certainly plan to attend.

Part of my compartmentalization has been spending more time outside in the warmer and sunnier Cantabrigian weather – I hope the warmth and sun is true for many of you, wherever you are. Believe it or not, there is just a little over a month before classes end, which is something both to lament and celebrate J As we’re in the thick of midterms please continue to be cognizant of Harvard’s Honor Code. Know that there are always resources to help you and that if you have any questions or concerns, that you should reach out to your professors, TFs, and resident dean. Finally, keep eating well, drinking water, exercising, sleeping, and of course, washing your hands! Sending Dunster Love.
