From the Office of the Interim Resident Dean, Gregory Davis:

Gaze into the future, Meece!

On Wednesday, your Crimson Carts open for the Fall 2024 term. You will get your first peaksat what will be offered next term and prepare yourselves for enrollment(running April 3 – 17). " src="/profiles/openscholar/modules/contrib/wysiwyg/plugins/break/images/spacer.gif" title="<--break-->">Although I’m sure you are quite preoccupied with classwork, exams, and stressors from Spring, you’ll need to start making plans soon to have the fall semester you want. Once registration ends, it won’t open again until August, so take this seriously!

Speaking of giving things serious thought, next Monday, April 1st, is the last day to withdraw from a course this term without needing Ad Board approval. I know you all are loathe to get a ‘WD’ on your transcripts, but it’s better than getting an unsatisfactory grade, especially if you care about your GPA. Withdrawing from a course requires signatures from your academic advisor and from me and cannot be done through myHarvard, so I strongly recommend looking into it soon if it’s at all on your mind.

We are Dunster: Trans+ Meece

Sunday, March 31st, is the International Transgender Day of Visibility. Started just in 2009, TDOV celebrates and honors the living members of transgender communities and thereby complements Transgender Day of Remembrance in November. As transgender, gender nonconforming, and genderqueer people become more prominent (and targeted) in society, moments like TDOV offer us the opportunity to be publicly grateful for the diversity and beautiful complexity these communities offer to our larger social fabric.

Here at the College, offices like BLGTQ+ Student Life and organizations like TransHarvard provide programming that educates us all on trans+ issues, offer support for students questioning their gender and/or experiencing dynamic gender journeys, and increase visibility generally. Because of these efforts (as well as decades of activism by past students in public and in private), Harvard is a better place for any student to think critically and introspect deeply about even our most entrenched cultural teachings and enforced social boundaries. This hard work – moved considerably by Dunster students and staff – is now an integral of today’s Harvard, and the Harvard of the future. Let’s celebrate that.

Wellness Coaching Conversations

Wellness Coaching Conversations

The Center for Wellness and Health Promotion at HUHS is pleased to be offering this new resource to students. Wellness Coaching Conversations are free, confidential 1:1 health & well being coaching sessions which offer support and structure for developing skills and habits to feel healthy and well in everyday life. Drawing upon the
wellbeing framework,mindfulness-based approaches, and motivational interviewing, the Wellness Coach will work with the student to identify the areas of well being in which the student wants support and feels ready to make behavior changes, such as sleep schedule, food & eating, mindfulness practice, exercise routines, stress management, etc.  Wellness Coaching Conversations are not therapy and do not involve mental health diagnosis or treatment. Through weekly conversations, students will track progress towards their wellness goals with personalized encouragement and accountability from the Wellness Coach. Wellness Coaching Conversations are offered in-person at Mather, Dunster, and Leverett Houses through a neighborhood-based pilot program, and are now available via Zoom for College students outside River East. Students can book these appointments through the HUHS patient portal : go to “appointments”, then“schedule an appointment” and select “wellness coaching” and follow the prompts there. Email Nina at nbryce@huhs.harvard.edu
with any questions!
