General Education

What is General Education?

Per the Gen Ed website: "Focusing on urgent problems and enduring questions, Gen Ed courses are unusually explicit in connecting the subjects you study to the people you will become and the world beyond the classroom. Transcending disciplinary divisions, they demonstrate the value of embedding what you will learn in your concentrations within the broader context of the liberal arts." To read more about the philosophy behind General Education in general, and behind the particular structure of the program and its requirements, you can peruse this report, produced by a committee headed by our own Dunster Faculty Dean Sean Kelly, which thoughtfully describes both: https://harvardmagazine.com/sites/default/files/gened.pdf

You can see current courses, policies, and more at the official website: https://gened.fas.harvard.edu/
